Kayla McGrory
Manager
As Salon Manager, I help keep Prickly Pear running smoothly behind the scenes while making sure every guest and stylist feels right at home. My role blends organization, creativity, communication, and a lot of tiny details that make the salon experience feel easy from the moment you walk in.

Before joining Prickly Pear, my background in retail, management, and social media gave me a mix of structure, problem-solving, and people skills that I use every day in the salon. After my daughter Louise was born, I found myself craving work that felt more aligned with my values of balance, connection, and growth. Being part of this team felt like the right fit because I get to support people, build systems, and help create a space that feels both welcoming and well cared for.

Day to day, I focus on the details that help your visit feel seamless. That may mean supporting scheduling, helping with guest communication, keeping the salon organized, assisting with inventory, or making sure our team has what they need to do their best work. A lot of what I do happens quietly in the background, but it all connects back to the same goal: making sure the salon runs smoothly, the team feels supported, and guests feel taken care of.

What makes my role different is that I care about both the practical details and the human ones. The guest experience is not just about your hair service. It is how you’re greeted, how clearly things are communicated, how supported your stylist feels, and how easy it is to move through your visit. I love being part of the “we’ve got you” feeling that makes Prickly Pear feel calm, kind, and intentional.

Beyond the salon, I’m mom to Louise and fur-mom to Bubba and Gwen. I care deeply about advocacy around queerness, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and mental health. When I’m not helping lead the team, you can usually find me thrifting, spending time with my family, or unwinding with a little reality TV.
